Measuring His Life Poem by RIC BASTASA

Measuring His Life

with coffee cups
something to wake him up
from a deadly
stupor

the last cup of coffee
is reserved
for his elegy

at this point he expects
no one to drink to that

except perhaps the
nod of silence
the standing ovation of
the wind's
tired hushes
