Meeting The Atlantic Ocean Poem by Michael Anthony Hernandez

Meeting The Atlantic Ocean

So this is she
the mighty Atlantic
she is
as majestic as I expected
it was as if
she too was expecting me

the whiff of her presence
absorbed miles away
as if she were saying
come
draw closer to me

in all her splendor
I ponder just how many
souls she has enveloped
how unsuspecting they were
assuming she could be tamed
until she within seconds
consumed their final breath

so in my counter
I found a right-sized stone
and waited until her waves retreated
and with all my might
hurled that stone deep into her bellows
take that your Majesty!

while I was awed by her presence
I have now been assured
she in exchange has felt the existence of me
for however brief

now onward!
four more oceans to go
