Memories Of Love Poem by Sherrie Lowe

Memories Of Love

When I first saw your smile
I realised how dark my life had been until that moment.

When I first saw your eyelashes
I wished that they were mine,
Long, soft, curling arcs, raised to the passing plane.
You told me it was one of yours, tongue in cheek.

When I first saw your bitten nails
I was disappointed, but only for a second.
They were a part of you, and you were perfect.

When I first saw your nylon shirts
I thought of school.
Nylon school shirts had eased the burden on a widowed Dad.

When I first heard ‘Our Tune, '
I cried.
It sounded of summer, and love, and you.

When I first saw your flannelette, paisley patterned pyjamas
I giggled,
But I didn't care because I loved you.

When I first saw my beautiful sapphire and diamond engagement ring,
Cocooned in its purple velvet box
I thought our love was forever.

When I first saw the decree absolute
I was ambivalent.
My beginning was our end.
