Memory Lane Poem by Marcquiese Burrell

Memory Lane

As I lay here staring at your picture
memories of us flows through my mind
Reading every message you've sent, I clutch onto my pillow
Wishing it were your body close to mines
Keeping myself from shedding tears
If only things were different
you wouldn't have disappeared
yet, you weren't consistent
Just A walking contradiction, who played on my fears
I couldn't play the role of someone who has never come to exist
from this moment on I must resist
Walking back down memory lane
I tried everything to move forward
so, why does the hurt in my heart remain
Part of me still believes fate will lead you back, back into my arms, where you belong
I'm really ready to love you this time
no, it isn't the lonely talking again
you light up my life, you're all that I need
I will not love quite this way
until you come back
I believe the greatest love of all
is the love you've given to me
and I'll stop at nothing to capture the feeling once again
