Mend-Mending Poem by Stephen Kekeghe

Mend-Mending

MEND was birthed to mend the injustice
That crossed our path.
The injustice of the dispossessed…
So, so they tell us!

As MEND raised the tidal wave
Against the oppressor's obstinacy,
Tears groped our eyes as the satanic messiahs
Abachan Ogoni!
Obasan Odi!
Yaran Gbaramantu!

Then luck! Luck located us
As Ayakoromo was scapegoated
In the search To-go and John this ancestral crime!

Ogoni! Odi! Gbaramatu! Ayakoromo!
What's your crime?
Is it not the crude that finds bed under your huts?
Is it not this same crude that is piped to foreign lands?
Is it not? Is it not?

We must ask these questions for tomorrow's answer:
Which man abandons his farm
Because of the invasion of weeds?
