Mercenaries of Death

Arise Nigeria, Arise Nigeria
Arise Nigeria and say NO
No matter where you reside in this nation
It is time to get up from your slumber
In order to secure our now and the future
Which some are bent on destroying
But they shall not succeed
Because our God is just and they will not win

How many more do they want to kill
Before they would be assuage
How many more lives do they want to waste
Before their blood thirst will be quenched
It is a war against humanity
It is a crime against the sanctity of life
Where are the elders,
Where the kings and emirs
Where are the leaders and obas
Where are the obis and oweles

Our voices are not strong enough
Our voices are not heard at all
Why have we kept quiet all this while
We allow evil and brazing sheding of blood
The blood of the innocent
Are shed at will without let or hindrance
Where are the deliverers
Where are those vallian men
Who will stand and speak for justice
Where are those vallian men of authority
Who can stem the tide of evil

Destroying young life's and our hope
Why have we sold our hearts to do evil
Our silence is not a mark of greatness
Our silence is consent and justification
We have become collaborators of sort
We are as guilty as the perpetrators
Yet they will not succed in this business
If they will not stop
And allow the voice of reason to prevail
Then they should be ready

And willing to take more lives
We will not succumb to their evil and threachtry
Against the commonwealth of brotherhood
Except they are willing to rule
Over animals and the like
As they would never rule over us
Their evil will always find them out
Arise Nigeria
Arise my fellow country men and women
It is a long drawn battle

We can win it collectively
We are stronger than them
Let your voices be heard across
The length and breath of this nation
No to boko haram
No to insurgencies
No to wanton destruction of life and property
No to their sponsors and collaborators
You shall not win this battle
The blood of the innocent is against you

You have murdered death
You also will not be able to sleep
The ways of the wicked are slippery
What cause them to slip they don't know
Say something and say No
Allow them not into your backyard
To drop their baggage and hide their courier
Pursue them to the edge of town
Until they can harm no more
Do not give thought nor excuse

Every means they will use to placate
They then strike when you least expect
They are mercenaries
Consider not there mere look and gesture
They are mercenaries of death
Eyes blood shot from hard substance
But filled with hatred for anyone
And anyone who seems not to agree
Or seems disagreeable to their cause
Walk far from them

And do not listen to them
Their consciences are seared
With no mercy or value for life
I cried but no tears to shed
Mothers wail from dusk to dawn
For their wards and families
Many orphans roam from one village to another
Made orphans not by choice
But by the hand of mercenaries
Oh arise and say No

poet Sarah Flower Adams

O Love! thou makest all things even
In earth or heaven;
Finding thy way through prison-bars
Up to the stars;
Or, true to the Almighty plan,
That out of dust created man,
