Author's Note:

This one-word poem was the centre of a mixed media canvas I completed in charcoal, graphite and metal. Titled 'one line about the sea', it was part of my performance as the opening speaker for the debate, Dissecting the Merlion, at the closing event of The Singapore Writers Festival 2009. Also launched at the event was a poetry anthology inspired by the Merlion across the four national languages.
