Mersey Beat Poem by Robert Edgar Burns

Mersey Beat

I had to take a twist and shout
To get my ticket to ride,
To bring you all my loving,
So come together baby by my side.

Please Mr. Postman,
If you have to drive my car.
I’ll ask you not a second time,
This letter must go so far.

Good morning, good morning
Here comes the sun.
Please carry that weight
But walk, do not run!

Lucy in the sky with diamonds,
Has an alias named Michelle,
And she is such a little child,
Yes, baby it’s you or can’t you tell?

Across the universe to Penny Lane,
Oh baby let it be,
To find Maxwell’s silver hammer,
Hey Jude can come with me.

I will bring with me all my loving.
Can’t buy me love, it’s free as a bird.
I’m happy just to dance with you
To rock and roll music, or other tunes I’ve heard.

I’ll go here, there, and everywhere,
Even when I’m 64. The inner light
For all you need is love my darling,
Watching rainbows I need you more!
