Messenger To Mankind Poem by Marianne Reninger

Messenger To Mankind

Rating: 5.0

I sit and ponder
Silence between the words
Space between the lines,
Guilt from the Past-
Staying alive while others died.

Could I have done more,
Failing to help others?
Bravery and strength in such short supply-
Reason and Faith, out the door.

The Night is long
Prisoner A-7713 ever present.
Their contempt for mankind, evil incarnate.
We fought the fight and the few lucky survived.
As luck would have it, the world remained silent.

But I will
Interfere with that Silence,
I'll be a Messenger to Mankind.
For how quickly the world forgets
And plants seeds of hatred that bind,
The 'Fear of the Other' to the deviant mind.

This is extraordinary. An important write written with all the elegancies of poetry and all the soul of a humane human being. I would like to see this as poem of the day- -I would like to see it as poem of the day several times. Keep being the messenger, Marianne. 10 of course.

again thanks, Susan. I'm always privileged to receive your kind words. Elie was an extraordinary man and exemplified the plight of the survivor and survivor's guilt. But his whole life he was a witness so that we, hopefully, will never forget....
