Minda Poem by Francis Duggan

Minda

Minda is one of life's great success stories but she has a terrible story to tell
Of neglect and alcoholic parents her teenage years were years of hell
And though the odds were stacked against her she had the desire to succeed
And like they say 'god loves a trier' and she is a trier indeed.

She is now in her mid twenties with four year old twins girl and boy
And her husband Joe is a good fellow he wakes before dawn lights the sky
He drives to his job in the suburbs and he works quite hard for his pay
And life looking better for Minda the one who came up the hard way.

Against the odds Minda succeeded and against the odds she hung in there
And despite her impoverished childhood she conquered the ghost of despair
Born to the wrong sort of parents and born in the wrong side of town
Yet there is much truth in the saying that you can't keep a good woman down.

Minda doesn't talk of her childhood she says I don't dwell in the past
And only can say I feel more than happy that the bad times for me did not last
This woman is a role model and by example she lead
All of the odds were stacked against her but she had the will to succeed.
