Mine? Poem by Romesh De Silva

Mine?

She is the lady in red
She is the devil, evil self fed
Minus the soul, minus the heart
A close encounter, two hearts apart
A casual glance, a sinful romance
Her face full of beauty, eyes filled with hate
She is here to do you harm, to complicate
Walking the line to worlds so divine
History self written, future present past
Backward motion, a love to never last
Body language foreign to my virgin eyes
The devil feeding on my deception, on my lies
I’m engulfed in loveless affair
Brittle, scared, totally unprepared
My severed thoughts concealed in a flask
Held so gently, gripped so tightly, hard to grasp
Occasionally sipped when in need
I’m addicted to its taste, to its greed
Flask seems empty, last drop rolls out with words, “temptation”
Sound echoes to be heard
Contemplating one’s self in sunshine’s darkness so bright
Your shadow watches from the corner
Acting out screams trying to warn you
Attracted to the devil in you, our love insincere, so untrue.
