Mirror Image
I do not have a problem
With my face.
I don't mind the fact
That my ears are out of place.
My nose has got a nosey cleft
And leans a little to the left.
No, I do not have a problem
With my face.
I like the way my one eye grows
Twice as large as my fine nose -
Whenever I eat things that twack,
That make my throat itch way in back,
My eyeball gets all red and green,
And when it oozes like an old latrine
It plops a teardropp now and then
Where a teardrop's never been,
Just to remind me and my toes
That my eye is bigger than my nose.
I do not have a problem
With my face.
It has that certain quality,
An acrobatic grace
Of seeing life quite differently
Than you or even I can see...
Beauty simple, wisdom fair,
Whenever it is welcome there.
And how I want my simple face,
With all its oddly-oddish grace-
To reach beyond
What it might see,
To be everything
It ought to be.
