Miss Jones Poem by Harry Behn

Miss Jones

Pretty Miss Jones enjoys valentines
Exactly as much as we children do,
But she doesn't care about Fourth of July
Except that it happens when school is through.
She's not so excited about Halloween
As she is about Christmas or Easter vacation,
Or Washington's birthday, or Abraham Lincoln's.
Those noblest heros of our great nation.
But Miss Jones tells us the day she likes best
Is a day when we still have to go to school;
She even reminded the class it's tomorrow,
When we can be bad and say April Fool!
We had planned to put a few frogs in her desk,
But now we don't know what to do or believe
When she tells us, and giggles, we'd better behave-
As if she had something worse up her sleeve!
