Missing you...

Watching people walking around in groups,
I wonder why I am just standing here,
Staring at their backs,
When I knew we could have been there too,
Enjoying the beauty of the festive mood,
Why did that day come?

I watch you from a great distance,
Making sure you can’t see me,
With you having fun with those whom love you for who you are,
And realise that I was one of them too,
Until it all happened in a split of a second,
Why did that day come?

All those words and promises exchanged,
Making sure each syllable was said loud and clear,
Promising to be by one another’s side forever,
Saying through thick and thin our friendship would survive,
I wonder what both of us were thinking,
While making such empty pacts,
Or did it turn out to be this way,
Because of that one day?
Why did the day come?

I miss laughing with you,
Hanging out together with your friends,
Having the freedom to say whatever that was in my mind,
Watching you make fun of me in return,
But ensuring that every single word was heard,
Or just sitting quietly with you being there,
As all you had to do was to be there,
As your presence gave peace to my heart,
Why did the day come?
If it was not for my ego, my sensitivity,
I know we could have made it through,
Just like everyone you can find out there,
Walking through the crowd like everyone else,
Enjoying each other’s presence,
Under the glowing lanterns and the shining moonlight,
For my stupidity ruined our friendship,
And as I am here regretting my mistake now,
I just want you to know,
That I valued your friendship till my heart’s core….

Poet's Notes about The Poem

This poem was written during the Mooncake Festival at my university. I miss him a lot and it hurts to think that we can't go back to whom we used to be before. I guess friendship means a lot to me...: /

Poem of the Day

poet Dante Gabriel Rossetti

A little while a little love
The hour yet bears for thee and me
Who have not drawn the veil to see
If still our heaven be lit above.
Thou merely, at the day's last sigh,
