Moments That Matter Poem by Michael Denis

Moments That Matter

The world without and our hearts within
Great determinants of our becoming
Both come with choices
Ours to make

What matters to one
Determines one's choices
But what does not lead to the truth
Should matter less

Moments that matter
Are when the heart is set on a goal
And life purposefully driven
When vain things are left behind

It matters when truly fulfilled
Thro' dedication to work
Happiness is relished too
At study and reflection

What a moment
When a thought is spared for others
When empathy breaks our hearts
And sympathy opens our arms

A time that calms wandering emotions
By the word of the creator
And our restless hearts find solace
In the awesome presence of the creator

It matters that moment of meditation
That illuminates our inmost being
On how pilgrims should sojourn
Since the world and its glories are fleeting

The daily moments of examination
Of conscience and future plans
Esp' how to fulfill our ultimate desire -
To always be at peace with God
