Momma Poem by Carmela Patterson

Momma

Wanting to be together, longing for yesterday
her journal, a treasure without measure
reading every comforting word, relishing
her embellishing, being totally absorbed
we are aware of nothing else at this time.

Why did mother have to leave us this way
leaving us alone, sorrow holding us sway
as we try to live out each and every day?
O God, help us! , we pray.

She became ill from consumption they said
we didn't understand but knew it was not good
[we want to be with her, if only we could.]
Then that dreaded day came; she died,
seeing her we cried, 'Momma! Momma! '

For now we shall take one day at a time
loving sisters walking together in rhyme
going through the rigors of our daily climb
to see Momma again one day,
will be sublime.

Dear Mel, I know this pain expressed in your poem. I can feel it. I cry for Mother still, she's been gone 7 years this year. I think you would relate to my poem Missing My Mom. Please let me know if you like it. Thank you. Be well.
