Monkey Aback Poem by Ima Ryma

Monkey Aback

A monkey on one's back is deemed
To be a burden to be borne
By a sad soul who never dreamed
Of one stuck in pity or scorn.
Why a monkey the metaphor
Is not clear from fiction or fact.
Humankind is forevermore
Blaming others for one's bad act.
I've never heard a monkey say
Human on back is cause of woe,
Wishing such would just go away.
Monkeys have more sense - doncha know!

I've got a monkey on my back.
He is my son - a precious pack.
