Monster Within Poem by Peter Black

Monster Within

The monster within me knows no concord
I smell like blood and spill out vinegar
But on the streets I seem like all the rest,
Noble humans: Perfect, Honest, Blessed;
But lock my body behind a closed door,
I rip off my skin and sprout angry horns,
And give my offerings to lust, my seed;
I claw at the walls and curse all good things.
When I come out, so normal I seem
Beside others sporting white pearly teeth,
And I will take to make my gold horde glow:
A big burning orb and kill all who know,
I am an insect on a tiny rock,
That knows nothing but that I am alone,
To die a carcass and be blown like smoke.
