Moon's Precept! ! ! Poem by Seema joglekar

Moon's Precept! ! !

Rating: 5.0

Night hurries, sashaying swirls off her inkish steely veils,
Delayed, despairs, laps marshes and mead, for a rendezvous in the hills,
Eager, breathless, stirring all that she brushes with her longings,
Seeing her arrive, the Full Moon bows low, almost touching the hills.

Locked in his heavy looks, copper glows yellow in his golden rim,
Seeks her out in dewy moans, her stabs of chills in trim.
Releasing from her finest drapes, chameleon like quicksilver,
Stirs dark temptations of some unguarded hour.

Teasing, woos her, plays hide and seek behind the clouds,
Like scrolls breaching limits of human bonds, a flushing horizon unfolds.
Imparting flawless truth to things, his diaphanous ray,
Buffers human erring, revealing sophistries of the day.

Waxing and waning- in long absence, draws nearer by each day,
Knowing his wayward feet are always bound the homeward way.
Misjudged by the world, accused as the heedless lover,
Proclaiming, on a full Moon, shuts them up with his timely ardor.

Trembling pulls him in her shadows, soils his purple with her dust,
Breaking away, pours his balms into her troubled heart.
Those in love, smitten in their sighs, are doomed to lay awake,
Those unloved, too finding courage; lay drowned in an aspiring ache.

Old grief forgotten, broods not over neglect or injury of age,
With a glowing heart, his praise she whispers in every shade,
Rejoicing their youthful fires renewed, accepting all joys and tears,
Nothing low or mean to hold them back, they scale over their fears.

Stars mutter like old women, retreat on his arrival,
Shadows gather to gossip, night blooms get their signal.
Night creatures ashamed play dead, a bird dares perfect his song,
Each attempting beyond their strength, in a trust that triumphs over wrong.

Splendorous lonely pearl glowing, rolls off Night’s braid,
Honors her with his starry gems, his restless sojourn shared,
Peeking from a retinue of clouds like dirty linen out in noon,
Who hasn’t drowned in the lure of the moon?

Together they fill the philosopher's thought and poet's vein,
What pain of separation, what degree of desire to gain!
How for ages their courtship thrives, the wind too takes their grace,
Affray in far-off seas, of all his contrasting faces saves her but one face,

Air drops in reverence, birds hush in awe,
Nocturnal rays flood, an ember color warms
Meteors fly sparks of their silent prayer much like mine,
All await for God’s some trifling sign.

He takes leave and mounts high, the hour is past,
Unable to follow she weeps, to almost hear it in morning mist,
How late we learn, a courtship we never discern, the heaven's lend,
How to hold a friend dear, unjudged, accepted, trusted to the end.
