Juan Olivarez (september 12 / nyssa oregon)
Morning on the Island
The sea rushes in,
Automatically I step back.
The foam lingers,
On the hard packed sand.
The blue stinging jellyfish,
Are everywhere.
Brazen seagulls,
Squawk all around,
And the sea roars on.
The sun slowly rises,
Over grey blue/green waters.
Two topless teenagers,
Not more than seventeen,
But probably sixteen,
Corner the market on noise,
Trying hard to be as conspicuous as possible.
Are they trying to impress this old man?
Could be, But I really,
Shouldn't flatter myself,
They are most likely,
Just too young, or possibly nuts.
Probably.
And the sea roars on.
Got to find me some sand dollars,
For my wife.
She will be waiting with my coffee.
And my glucosamine/chondroitin supplement,
Tablets.
Keep looking away old man,
My that seagull is loud,
And the sea roars on.
