Mr. Right Poem by Theresa Ann Moore

Mr. Right

Up in her years…she was a widow
Her days were quiet and lonely
Until one day while playing Bingo
A gentleman sat down opportunely

Magic filled the air as she anxiously waited
A letter and number combination was called
She happily cheered as she completed a row
A hug then led to a friendship that snowballed

Offering her a ride home after the event
Light conversation brightened her afternoon
With a charming smile he said persuasively
Pretty lady, I'd like to see you again real soon

The next day, there came a knock at her door
It was her new found friend with flowers in hand
May I come in... I could not get you off my mind
With a gracious 'of course'; his eyes began to scan

Within a few weeks of courting…he was moving in
He even brought is pal…a terrier named Jack
Regularly going to restaurants and movie shows
Life had taken on a glow…everything was on track

As time progressed, the gentleman took interest
Checking into her holdings and bank balance
Asking to be jointly assigned... for convenience
Incase a crisis arose, he could be of assistance

A sudden chill cooled the sparkle of trust in her eyes
Having doubts of the gentleman who warmed her bed
I'll have to think it over, was her cautious response
Her days of joy were now filled with skepticism instead

Soon her gentleman friend announced he was packing
He had met a new love… three days ago, on the internet
Oh by the way, he won't be taking his ratty barking dog
His new friend has a Persian cat…he'll be easy to forget

As he left, she bolted the door…Jack began to chase his tail
The light from the evening news lit the darkened boudoir
By her side was her newly acquired canine companion...
At least he won't be a phony or ask for the keys to her car
