Music: Peter Schaffer’s Amadeus Poem by Margaret Alice

Music: Peter Schaffer’s Amadeus

Watching Peter Shaffer’s
Amadeus
as therapy;
heavenly music
played to the theme
quality
outlives
short-term
sensationalism;
Mozart’s classic music
outliving Salieri -
challenging God
ascribing his own
desires to Him
and subsequent events –
Mozart’s arrival and
musical talent – as
God showing him up
as a mediocrity;
never accepting
responsibility
for his own choices;
not allowing Mozart
freedom to be successful
dethroning him in Vienna –
pointing out
how we refuse
to see our own share
in what’s taking place
in the world –
like I’m determining
my role in
contracting problems
that prevent me
from making progress
in my chosen profession…
