My Country.... One To Be Proud Of! Poem by Jayatissa K. Liyanage

My Country.... One To Be Proud Of!

Rating: 4.5

My country, where I was born in
Its the country where I shall die
Being my mother land, superlative
of the highest prestige and esteem

She owned a heritage, second to none
and established history, to be proud of
Over three thousand years, it is recorded
when inhabitants made pots using kind of turntable

They've used iron of some form, to chip rocks
and started to work on soil, purposefully
Associated with grains of sorted types
Performed civilized funeral rituals to dead, as well

Buddhism has already rooted in then
A religion backed culture too had set in
Skyscraper Dhagebas, side by side with Weva
were the man made structures, most prestigious
(Dhageba = Relics holder = Stupa / Pagoda, Weva = large reservoirs of water, man-made on-earth, in association with settlements)

Weva being the center of worldly needs, and
Dhageba centered for spiritual needs
They mastered irrigation structures and systems
Of engineering perfection, unchallenged up to date

Self produced food, clothing and education
pretentious tongue, literature and technologies
With an inherited system of rule of ours
rendered the nation, protected and contented

Marco Polo, Vasco de Gama, Ibn Battuta,
Fa-Hien et al preserved in records, what we were
Nicknamed as pearl in the Indian Ocean
Granary of the east and island of Gems

My Country.... One To Be Proud Of!

I have been to your country once...... am really impressed by your roads with neatly growing and well protected bunyan trees growing on either side! Its beautiful pagodas are something to be marvelled over! Your country, though not quite large, a beautiful pearl in the Indian ocean has an unpretentious grandeur! As a loyal citizen, I can feel your sense of pride in these lines!
