My Dark Angel Poem by Cynthia Gomez

My Dark Angel

At times when I see you
My blood runs cold
My heart beats faster
Like I’ve fallen in a hole

I would like to know
How you do it.
It’s you I despise
And yet I still want you.

Those hard coal eyes
And that death pale skin
The way you look at me when you pass by.
I know what you are…
You’re a sin.

I feel myself leaning toward you
Against my own will
I know I shouldn’t
But for you I would make a blood deal.

I can’t run from you
You’re in my dreams
I can’t wake up
I don’t think I want to.

Behind closed eyes
In a dark field
When danger arrives
You and your wings become my shield.

At every night
It ends with this
An everlasting, tight
Enveloping kiss

When I wake at midnight
My eyes open to find yours
Then to take in the beautiful sight
As your black velvet wings unfurl.
