My Dream Poem by Richard Netherland Cook

My Dream

The dream that once I dreamed about,
The life I would fulfill,
Lies in all the dreams that were,
But in my heart it lingers still.

It is too late to dream it now,
The story has been told,
The years grow shorter as the day,
And I am growing old.

No longer is there time ahead,
The bird of youth has taken wing,
I cannot dream that dream again,
That song I cannot sing.

Ah! , let me hope that in my heart,
Lies a tender thought,
That those in life who I have loved,
Some pleasure have I brought.

Not every life is true to plan,
The path is hard to see,
But for some the dream will come,
Just as it should be.
