My Early Demise Poem by Theresa Ann Moore

My Early Demise

My name was in the obituaries the other day
It was quite a shock, I must say...
An old friend called my place of employment
offering condolences with sad bereavement

A nearby neighbor whom I rarely see
joyfully waved and said hello to me
I had a sneak preview of what my death
would reveal…it took away my breath

I realize that someone with my same name
is gone…their friends are dealing with the pain
Inside I feel a tinge of sadness and remorse
With thankfulness I continue on my daily course
