My Eyes Poem by Rose Marie Cook

My Eyes

Through mine own eyes I have seen
What people can cause
How the world can be so cruel

I have seen broken souls along the path
Shattered dreams and how they always come back
Destroyed lives from choices we made

Shame through their eyes reflect regret
Disappointment shines through their souls
Suicide taking over their minds

I have seen love fade
And hate grow
Wars seen as the solution rather than a problem

I have felt the hot pools of blood
Slide down my face from my eyes
Night after night

How do we fix a broken world
That doesn't want help?
My eyes have not seen the final result

But my heart weeps for those lost souls
Who died for an uncalled for cause
For trying to fight a solution rather than just creating one

My eyes cannot see our future
But it looks meek, unless
We stand together and do something.
