My Friend Sparrow Poem by A K Rajagopalan

My Friend Sparrow

Rating: 5.0

My little friend sparrow
Eats grains that I offer
Holding in my one hand
While other holds a camera
And snaps a grand photo;
The sparrow lived with me
In the house I was residing
A few years ago with family;
Sparrows are now rare to see
After I moved from that home;
People's minds are so narrow,
They don't care of the sparrow;
What will I show my grandchild
As a sparrow sometime tomorrow?

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
A sparrow used to eat grains that I offered holding in my hands a few years ago. Sparrows don't believe humans so easily. I have read about Henry David Thoreau who befriended even rats and seen a Tamil movie actor Chandrababu befriend rats in front of a movie camera in a movie. Now after having moved from that house I have not been able to see sparrows so much. Experts who care about environment say that sparrows are becoming extinct!

A beautiful poem, AK. I too have an affinity for all living things and fear for their continued existence. Thank you for sharing. Peace

A lovely piece of poetry, well articulated and insightfully penned to highlight the dangers posed by human activities on environment. Not only sparrows, so many animals, birds, fishes... are facing extinction today. Very good to highlight this problem in a lovely poem. Thanks for sharing. Please read my poem MANDELA - THE IMMORTAL ICON.
