My dear Isabella, I'm so sorry I couldn't stay
The war across the open ocean sent me on my way
But my dear Isabella know I still think of you
Every single night and every day too
I think about the way that you told me you loved me
That summer was paradise and sweet ecstasy
But with the fall come news from across the way
News that said I would never come home someday
I'm sorry that I failed you, and the life you had planned out
And I'm sorry I underestimated you and what our love was about
Please know that I'll miss your caramel flowing hair
And your big brown eyes that always told me you did care
And I miss your sweet skin, the colour of vanilla
So please know I'll always miss you, my dear Isabella
