My Lament Poem by Noah Body

My Lament

The darkness it is creeping
Over all the land it is seeping
It comes and it goes
It's face it never shows
Sometimes it comes and doesn't go
Why? For all the world I wish I could know
All in it's path it covers
Over my head it always hovers
Now it is coming back
My brain it will wrack
It's playfield is my emotions
Like the shore covered by the oceans
It covers me head to toe
Like a fresh blanket of snow
But not so peaceful, no way
I guess there's naught else to say
I'm caught in it's grip, there's no escape
Like a square rigger caught at the cape
Persevere, fight on they'll say
And I want to cry out "No way"
I want to surrender, give it all up
Give me this not, fill not the cup
I can't do it again, not any more
I'm tired of this, it's become a bore
