My Life Poem by Gordon D Wilkinson

My Life

Rating: 5.0

I can feel the sound of your heart
Pounding so loud and strong
Feel your warmth
Know your pain
So pleasant the voice I hear
Easily discernable from the rest
I know I am part of you
Never no matter what, will that change
There will be difficult times ahead
Some that will make you cry with the pain
Yet I know you love me
For now, you are my life
Without you I cannot go on
Never be me without your care
Soon you will hold me so tight
Nourish my body with yours
Shape my existence as you see fit
Just one more they say
Breathe
Once more
I see the worlds welcoming hands
The slap I feel as they made me cry
Now I know life outside your womb
Mother I am your son
Today is my day to be born
A bloodied bundle thrust into your arms
Helpless and clinging
Listening to your heart again
Clasped tightly to your breast
The years roll on in our relationship
Some good others bad
Clothing and feeding my body
My private nurse for illnesses
Scolding me when it is required
Teaching the lessons, I need to know
Shaping my character
Smiles and kisses in abundance
Hugs when I needed one
Sometimes hugs when I did not
You gave your moral standards
They seem so high
I will endeavour to keep to them
Hoping that I can be a credit to you
Still through all the tribulations, you gave me one thing
Your total love
Freely without strings
Never asking me to love you back
Then you know I do
