My Lifelong Friend

You know my heart You know my name
My everlasting soul
My wicked wayward walk of shame
Toward my selfish goal

Yet my God has always loved me
Shown truly that You care
Suffering death on Calvary’s Tree
Eternity to share

Your Kingdom, wealth, Your perfect love
The power in Your hand
One day with You to rise above
And walk Your Promised Land

The grace Salvation’s shown me
The faith I call my own
Jesus has given gratis free
Whilst still my heart was stone

My parents never knew my King
My sibling’s eyes failed too
Yet here the least may praise may sing
And live to worship You

Should I not ask my Saviour why?
Pray here my Lord would tell
Or live to serve The One on high
Who saves my soul from hell

So now by faith and not by sight
My all to You I give
Exchanging rags for robes of white
Knowing I’ll surely live

For You are God my rich reward
Through life my one true friend
Defence against the evil horde
Until the devil’s end
