My New Kayak Poem by bilbo reid

My New Kayak

Rating: 4.8

I've bought myself a kayak to float me on the sea
It doesn't cost too much to run, just a bag of chips and a mars bar
Some of these of course, well, they might just be for me
I'll splash about on the water, i dont need to go far
So i took it to a local beach for it's first launch on the sea
No champgne across it's bow, just a primus and a mug of char

I paddled out across the bay and back on the same day
Not much i hear you say, though to me it seemed quite far
I then went out around the point and found a hidden bay
I paddled past some mighty cliffs where once i'd watched the stars
The seagulls seemed to mock when a wave doused me in spray
And the cormorants they could'nt stifle their wild and raucous laughs

So i thought i would head out to sea about as far as i dare
Then i returned to my senses and turned back to the shore
And wondered how much food i'd need to cross the sea to Eire
Next time i will remember to bring a fishing line and lure
I'll be going out again soon when the winds and rain are clear
A couple of fresh caught mackerel would please me, thats for sure..

Nice story about taking in some time for yourself and enjoying life's simpler things. I also have a kayak. Although I never went into the ocean with it. Being in a bay would be cool, but leaving the sight of land would be pretty scary in a tiny, carbonfiber kayak!

What an adventure, sounds great fun, pleased you had your primus to make your mug of char, Sounds like you will get a fish supper next time. Loved the poem..

I had a kayak once, so I know where you are coming from. This was a joy to read. Don't venture to far. Keep on writing
