My Smile - Poem by P.S. Blair

6/9/2013

If you catch me in a smile
Don’t be fooled by my grin
I hide behind my half smile
To cover wounded skin

If you catch me in a smile
Don’t be fooled by my face
It’s no more than a mask
The lies I speak have a bitter taste

If you catch me in a smile
Don’t be fooled if I laugh
I wear my smile to put you at ease and
Hide how hurt I am

If you catch me in a smile
Please don’t be fooled by my eyes
They’re the window to my thoughts and
They scream all the times I’ve cried
