My Way Poem by Sara Militello

My Way

Rating: 5.0

My Way

I yearn to say 'I love you' but
the word's too oft' profaned
for me to trust it.

When love's too like despair
prudence and I eschew it.

Maudlin sentiment's not my style
and used too often as a ploy
by those who would merely beguile,

So...would you accept love from a heart
devoted to the heaven-sent
like the impulse of the dove for the North Star?

Would you like to share every tomorrow
away from the sphere of the merely narrow

as we hitch our love to a receding star
and together discover what wonders may await...?

I reworked this poem, removing punctuation. It's a style I'm trying to achieve toward minimal word usage.
