Myth Poem by Johan van wyk

Myth

Would you tell me it's true
That love is just a myth
A story made up by grown-ups
To avoid seeing what's amiss

Tell me it wasn't real
All the happiness we shared
Tell me she told me lies
When I asked her how she fared

Tell me this pain was there
From the start up to the end
That there was no reason
For her to stay and me to pretend

Tell me my laugh was real
My smile without sorrow
Tell me I watched her walk away
And thought happily about tomorrow

Tell me it was meant to be
Even if it wasn't what I thought
That loneliness was my destiny
Before I even learned to walk

Tell me these falsehoods
And tell them to me true
Maybe then I can give up
On all the feelings I felt for you
