Nanny Poem by nimal dunuhinga

Nanny

[Love does not claim possession, but gives freedom.]- Rabindranath Tagore

Child stopped her crying
thanks
she knows the prayer of soothing
only the infant hears,
We adults deaf
and inquisitive much
Yes, I saw the red birth mark
on her nape while she's folding the nappies.
Oh! the nap on the broken sofa
disturbed my soul
and I hear the Woodstock lyrics of Joni Mitchell
in my dream.....(And I dreamed I saw the bombers
Riding shotgun in the sky,
And they were turning into butterflies
Above our nation.)
