Narcissus Poem by Cynthia Buhain-baello

Narcissus

Engrossed with the fixation of himself and all
He shunned true Love when she came into the woods,
There he failed to hear and heed dear Echo's call
Narcissus was the first real Selfie dude.

He'd look for hours in that tender adoration
Of his image on the pool which gave him no response,
Echo's heart was broken by his blunt rejection
She now speaks in tones repeated more than once.

Because he could not consumate the love with his image
Great despair led to his eventual demise
Ended up being just a flower in a verdant stage
A reminder to all who love Self with their eyes.

Narcissus is the god of selfies and he can be
Alive in selfie photos, videos, here, and everywhere!
In lines of 'I, me, mine, myself, ' writ in poetry
A subtle but consuming trap of which we may not be aware.

Great job! This is one of my very favorites of the Greek Myths!
