Narendra Modi
(This poem was written this day last year (21st May 2014) when Mr. Modi rode the crest of a popular wave to power. I don’t want to sit in judgment of his performance during the last twelve months or listen to what his detractors have to say, as even they would admit that this gentleman is quite unlike an Indian in that he doesn’t sit idle even for a second. This poem now is a hope against hope.)

A wistful nation prayed and yearned
And then, their summer dreams at last have flowered
Modi, please take the reins and lead
Grant them the deliverance they need
They didn’t vote for a party or a group
They chose a man they sensed
Within themselves who would sure
Effect their post-independence sins a cure
And you happen to be the worthy son
Who called dear India mother
On a land where statesmen had scampered
Hither and thither hoping to ‘discover’ their mother!
And where politicians of every hue
Have cried victory to her aloud
While away from public eye
Worked for selfish ends in the sly
She is on her sick bed, gasping for breath
Kneel beside her, help her stand
And walk towards a brilliant morn
Across the great Gangetic plains
On to a land sans minorities
Or a majority, but of true equality
Of the fullness of our Indianness
Which one and a quarter billion equally share
Take us ahead Modi, we can’t wait
Blessed are you, mom has her hand on your pate
Our roots are bleeding, no more wait
We don’t care two hoots
For the balderdash your detractors mouth
A nice poem showing one's love for the country and hoping for the much needed change.The right person to take up the challenge but now we are left wondering whether our expectations were too high or whether Mr Modi has been overestimated...
Modi has a great opportunity to take this slumbering society in the right direction. I very much appreciate his Swatch India mission and hope that we have a cleaner India in all its sense. A India free from corruption, nepotism - where every Indian has equal opportunity under the sun and where million dreams can flower. Enjoyed it.
When he came into power, most of the Indians expected a radical change in the form of development and in the war against corruption.... Though it is not yet time to pronounce a judgement, the initial expections are now a little blurred! But amazing is his rapport with foreign rulers and diplomats...! In no time, he has become a crowd puller. His energy and verve make us feel confident that this self made man will lift India's image in future! Wind is preferred to doldrums! Action... good or bad is preferable to inaction and sloth! Great tribute!
