Nationalism Poem by matthew wunsch

Nationalism

Rating: 4.5

And we wrap ourselves in flags
With our nation we are caressed.
In the shadow of an H bomb,
In our mind we are in love;
In the shadow of an H bomb.

So breathe in your love
And feel it collapsing in your waking lungs
With your heart beating chemicals
Into your blood.
Now we are immune to oxygen.
Now we are in love.
Now we are in love.
Now we are in love.
And we wrap ourselves in a flag;
In our nation we are caressed.
Black bullet stair across the ocean
And over mountains.
The fortress of curtains
And ashes.

Bulls on the street,
Bears that claim to bleed;
Just vultures of hypocrisy.
If they are hungry they will eat their young.
Thirsty they will drink their blood.
Starving, it’s war.
Starving, it’s war.
If they are starving it’s war.
