Nerve Poem by Thomas Lawrence

Nerve

If i could cool the nerve cells
of my spinal cord
and no longer feel my body

i could walk out into the courtyard
breath deeply,
imagine belonging in the world

i could walk the roadside
notice more than
burberry scarves, land rovers

i could see you as you are
and be ashamed
for making you up
