Never Would Poem by Kitty Marie Lucas

Never Would

watch the ship that you said never
would sink into the sea;
I would have done it on my own
if you hadn't promised me.

I bailed the water,
I patched the cracks;
such energy could never last...

and the maiden at the bow
can't be heard beneath the souse,
but you know she screamed
all the way down.
