New York Poem by Steve Hancock

New York

A stalagmite soaring protrusion
Such grandeur in chaos she keeps
Woven with threads of insomnia
The city they say never sleeps

like a god surveying his kingdom
I gaze far beyond Brooklyn lights
Grazing my face upon near cloud
I witness the Empire State heights

A plague through the heart of midtown
Like Tetris on the streets far below
Yellow taxi in utter abundance
World famous as a Broadway show

In the Harbour she beckons beguiling
Her tainted complexion serene
Tapered seven rays of the diadem
Adorn lady liberty dauphine

The poignant scars of September
That stifle my heart turn cold
Magnificent skyline of Manhattan
Though bereft is something to behold

You've captured some moments extremely well - with the skyline in the background - the Lady herself and the poignant portrayal of a city so picturesque. Thank you, Coll
