Nightmare On Rewind Poem by Jo Lynn Ehnes

Nightmare On Rewind

Awakened, drenched in sweat of fear,
I'm trembling from this dark distress.
My eyes pursue an evil face
that's shrouded by the shade of night.
Tormented by recurring dreams,
I'm trapped in terror's strong embrace.
Afraid of sleep's invading force;
insomnia's my trusted friend.
But when exhaustion takes control
this incubus sneaks in the room
and enters my subconscious thoughts;
with chains of fright it binds my soul.
It grasps me tight on horror's bed
and blinds me in a cloak of black.
No rays of truth to set me free
or clear my sight to fight this threat.
I hear his vicious presence laugh
and feel his strength approaching me,
that's when my angered spirit screams
and breaks his fierce demonic hold.
This vision haunts my conscious mind.
I pray for interceding peace
to conquer darkness one more time
and end this nightmare on rewind.
