-no Christmas On The Battle Field-

It’s Christmas time in the U.S.A,
Every family should be home enjoying the cheer,
That this season brings but this is not so,
There are one or two missing from each bunch,
Where did they go?

Out in the world are our son’s and daughters,
Battling others with status like theirs,
Important to someone back home but neither side cares,
The object of this game of pointless chess,
Is to wipe the other side out completely,
The prize is going home to waiting families for Christmas.

But what neither side realizes when they march
Across the fields and raise their guns,
Is that we all what the same thing,
Why not a draw you ask?
I am unsure, we may never find out.

When the rifles are raised and the orders have been given,
They fire, shattering millions of dreams with each BANG!
Charring the land with their feverish attempts to make it home,
In the end they’re both infected with the drive to continue,
Craving their family’s warmth and support,
Would they stop if Christmas came?

Would they join hands if Santa granted this one small wish?
Unfortunately I doubt that, Christmas shall never come
As long as the soldiers drone on with mechanical feel,
One thing running through their minds as they battle on fiercely.

There is no Christmas on the battle field.
