No Exit-A Newburgh Tragedy Poem by Alfonso Siverls

No Exit-A Newburgh Tragedy

locked in a bubble
filled with despair and hopelessness

what is real is beginning to seem unreal
and what is unreal is becoming real

no way out, unbearable pain
and the bubble is shrinking

i will not abandon them
not in life nor in death

foot to the pedal
panic and screams
chilling cold
rising water

bubble burst
what have I done
i made a mistake

silence of death
