No-One Poem by Susan Ash

No-One

I look around .....
there's no-one there ....

No-one there to care or share,
No loving kiss, no tender smile,
No welcome home upon the tile

No-one to see the me within
No-one to stroke my silk smooth skin
No-one to caress my aching limbs
Or delight in some occasional whim

No-one with whom to share my thoughts,
My hopes, my dreams, the things I bought.
I’ve worked so hard for this lonely life
Of daughter, sister, mother, wife.

Outside the world's a warmer place
They see my smile, they see my face.
I hold my own, they admire my skill
Just this dark space I feel the chill.

I look around .....
there's someone there.....

A shadow sitting in the chair
A memory of what has been and gone
Faded hopes of being as one

I’m sad, I hurt, I shed a tear,
Then start to think of what to wear
To face the world another day...

I look around ....
then turn away.
