No Option... Poem by Connetta Jean

No Option...

I used to watch the news
but it's too depressing
listening to people
with good jobs
telling me
to hang in there.
'Make a plan'
Talking to people
Who Iost their job
are losing a house
can't fix their car..
people who's
credit cards
lay dead in the wallet.
people who got letters
saying sorry but.
the retirement fund
is gone
(the company 'lost' it all..)
Yep,
their advice is welcome
everyone's making some plans...
They don't forward unemployment.
gotta have a address.
gotta have a car
gotta have a phone.
gotta have all that
or you got problems.
Fancy people with jobs
look in the camera
like robots....
Offering advice.
on how to cut back
how to survive
In spite of it all..
They never seem
to 'get it'..
They go there
but they ain't
'been there.'
But The fear
in their eyes
the shaking of hands...
can not be hidden.
it's come a time
when anyone can be
cheaply replaced.
no job is secure.
we can all hit the wall.
& the more people make
the further they'll fall.

A reflection of our times, Connetta. Sadly, this is true life and very frightening, too. Nicely put together with a good and tongue-in-cheek choice of words. Superb. Fran xx
