She knew the wake was on her...
Crawling up footed steps
Laying heavy thoughts
on the back porch
Where dreams stand waiting
for breaking.

One more night turns to day,
skipping her sideways
Stretching shadowed curves along roads
Leading her slow flooding rapture
to nowhere.

'Never wake.'
A whispered seduction
plays an uneven score,
Seemingly sweet off-tune,
as it woes her to sleep
once again.
