Dedicated to someone I thought I knew.

am I dreaming?
I'm here in a hospital
I feel so isolated
I am alone
I hear people talking
'I'm sorry, she's dying, '
I see people walking
nobody cares if I am alone
now I wake in my bed
it was only a nightmare
but it's gained significance
to the truth in my life
there's no blade on my skin
only inside my heart
since nobody sees it
I guess nobody cares

I always try to tell them
how much I bleed
but they aren't doctors
they don't know what I need
I always try to tell them
that he caused me to fall
but they aren't lawyers
and they don't care at all
I always try to tell them
that I need love sometimes
but their hearts aren't broken
they've crossed no lines
I always try to tell them
that it's not fair to us
to be apart for so long
to lose our needed trust
yes, I know you're the one
who pushed me away
but I'm coming back
one more time just to say
your words, they have scared me
more than anything else
I am a hopeless case
in and of myself
my soul, it has crumbled
inside your hands
I've been betrayed by someone

you have been left lonely
without anything in your heart
still, you turned on me
and tore me apart
I can't choose for you
to come back or not
and if you're so damn happy
with whatever you've got
than walk on by me
with your sad little stare
asking 'what did I do? '
you don't have a prayer
for me answering that
only we know the facts
the truth slides under my door
and slips through the cracks
as your lies just echo
over and over
and then I feel
your hand on my shoulder
but I shake you off
and say no, no, no
you can't have my friendship
after making me go
it doesn't work that way
I have to be fair
and if you don't care
then nobody cares

and no one gets along here
here in this figurative hospital
